Lake County is located about 2 hours north of San Francisco, right above the Napa Valley. The location doesn’t see as many visitors as the popular cities that surround it, and because of that, it is a hidden gem in the state. I had never been, so when the county invited us to visit, I jumped at the chance to explore a new part of California. What I found was small-town charm, the largest freshwater lake in California, wineries, and an awesome volcano you can hike, among other things. New resort, hotel, golf course projects poised to increase Lake County’s California tourism profile
Reeling after several wildfires over the past several years, Lake County is attracting several sizable resort and “glamping” projects, a potential boom, especially for the pandemic- struck restaurant and hospitality industries.
Lake County’s leisure and hospitality sector jobs were down 22% in October from a year before, to 930 from 1,200, according to the state Employment Development Department.

Lake County Winegrape Harvest Gets Underway with Its Flagship White: Sauvignon Blanc
Kelseyville, Calif. August 28, 2019 – The 2019 Lake County winegrape harvest is underway and growers in the high-elevation winegrowing region are once again pleased with this year’s growing conditions and optimistic about the grape quality.
Many of the region’s growers and vineyard managers are anticipating an earlier-than-normal harvest, which was unexpected given the region’s wet spring and relatively cool early season temperatures. However, by midseason, more normal temperatures prevailed, making for consistent, and in some cases, even early ripening.
In my role as Executive Director of the Lake County Winery Association I am responsible for overseeing the association’s activities, increasing membership, and promoting tourism in Lake County. When I was appointed to be on the board of directors, it was important to me for our local wineries to have a voice in the business community. Our wineries are one of the major economic engines in Lake County which help fuel business for the rest of the county.
